We spent two years planning our dream wedding, however we met our wedding planner, Candice, four years beforehand. Ever prepared, I started looking for a wedding planner before I got engaged - two years before to be precise.

How does the saying go? If you fail to prepare, you fail to prepare. I would not fail at my wedding. 
From our first meeting, it was immediately apparent that we would be choosing to work with Candice - however far into the future. She came into the first meeting with many wonderful ideas, but more importantly, she took the time to get to know us as a couple and helped us begin to visualize what we wanted our wedding day to look like, sound like and feel like.

Two years later, when I had an actual ring on my finger, I called Candice and we picked up where we had left off and began to plan what may have been the most meticulously curated event I had ever attended. Candice was a consummate professional; she not only handled our decor, menu, seating plan, photography, guest lists, venue contract and other (read: all) important details, she also kept us organized with our small tasks and time lines that were necessary for the wedding to come off as we hoped, without ever becoming pushy. Her time management skills were exemplary; while pregnant, and later with a newborn baby, without exception, she was always available and accessible to us and our many questions and requests. Please note I did the complete opposite when I had two babies in the two years we spent planning and would go completely awol for weeks, because not all of us are Candice! Being the control freaks and creatives that we are, Candice was always attentive to our needs, and was able to give extremely practical input into our ideas.

 

She was gracious in her dealings with all wedding stakeholders (ie parents), and was transparent in all communications, be it financial or otherwise.  She managed to coordinate a spectacular event that truly represented us, and blew away our guests.

While I imagine that all wedding planners can create aesthetically pleasing events, what set Candice apart and made us appreciate her as much more than just our wedding planner was her personal efforts to work with us as a couple rather than just a "client."  She not only asked questions, she actively listened to our answers and thoughts and incorporated them into her suggestions.  She has an ability whereby she gave us the space for total creative control without seeming disinterested, and was able to suggest amendments without seeming overbearing. To be able to maintain such a delicate balance between knowing when to take a step back and when to be more hands on, all whilst being next to her couple, holding their hands every step of the way, is a true gift. She came to understand what we value in each other as partners, and she helped us to realize how that could be represented genuinely in our wedding.

 

Without exaggeration, we owe our wedding day success to Candice.  It was literally everything we had hoped for and more. If there were any challenges on the day of, we never knew about them because she was there every step of the way to take care of them.

We started our wedding planning journey two years ago, and when all the confetti and glitter had settled, I walked away from our wedding with a true friend. Candice is a particular and rare brand of planner who cares so deeply, that it is impossible not to love her, and to have her become a part of your story, even after the wedding day has passed.
